Corps Members Charged to Take Their Orientation Course Seriously

ISELE-UKU/Nigeria: The 2019 Batch ‘B’ stream 1 corps members deployed to Delta State have been charged to take the skill acquisition programmes of the NYSC very seriously

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, gave the charge at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku while declaring open the three weeks orientation course exercise.

Governor Okowa who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Chiedu Ebie, advised the corps members to take advantage of the state government’s skill acquisition programmes so as to sharpen their skills after the orientation exercise.

The governor reminded them that the environment of the orientation camp was highly regimented and unique in line with the peculiarities of NYSC operations, cautioning “You should not be distracted by the little inconveniences at the camp, and rather you should remain focused on the intended objectives.”

Dr Okowa further stated that the call to national service required sacrifices, dedication, perseverance and humility, assuring that the state government would continue to do everything possible to ensure that the welfare of corps members was enhanced.

The governor also assured of the continuation with its tradition of acknowledging outstanding performance of corps members in all areas of service to the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) who is also the Chairman, NYSC Delta State Governing Board, Mr Chiedu Ebie who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr Jerry Agbaike, charged the corps members to be fully committed in the orientation course activities.

Mr Ebie stated that anything short in their participation in the orientation course activities would make them lose the essential ingredients of the course and service year, saying that active participation would equip them to face the challenges of their primary assignment wherever they were posted to.

He enjoined them to maintain the high standard of discipline that had already been established over the years.

Earlier in his address, the State NYSC coordinator, Mr Omotade Ayodele, expressed appreciation to Governor Okowa for his numerous support to the scheme in the state, in the same vein he also congratulated Mr Chiedu Ebie on his appointment as the Secretary to the State Government.

A total of 2,394 corps members were administered oath of allegiance by the State Chief judge, Justice Marshall Umukoro represented by Justice Christiana Ogisi.
