Class of ’93 from Auchi Polytechnic Celebrates 30th Graduation Anniversary with Theme ‘Reliving the Golan Height Experience’
ASABA/Nigeria: The Class of ’93 from the Department of Mass Communication at Auchi Polytechnic in Auchi, Edo State, gathered in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their graduation from the institution. The theme of this joyous reunion was “30 Years After: Reliving the Golan Height Experience.”
The reunion brought together a remarkable assemblage of Class of ’93 members, including distinguished individuals who have made their mark in various fields. Notable attendees included Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Works, Rural and Riverine Roads; Basil Agboarumi, Managing Director of Skyway Aviation Handling Company; Nkem Nwaeke, an Assistant General Manager at Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri; and Barth Omoaka, a Director in the Department of State Security Service, DSS, among others.

This gathering provided a unique opportunity for the former students to bond and reminisce about their days at the Golan Heights, an institution that has propelled numerous individuals to success on a global scale.
The event in Asaba showcased the significant contributions of the Class of ’93 Mass Communication Department to various fields. Many have risen to become Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers in thriving businesses and corporate organizations. Those in the public service have achieved managerial positions such as Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and Senior Managers.
Prominent figures like Charles Aniagwu, a three-time Commissioner and Member of the Delta State Executive Council, and Boniface Onyedi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Media and Publicity, stand as examples of the class’s remarkable achievements.
The AMCOS Class of ’93, renowned as one of the best sets in the Department of Mass Communication at Auchi Polytechnic, also boasts members who have become lecturers in higher institutions, principals of secondary schools, high-ranking officers in national security agencies, publishers, senior news correspondents, and editors in prominent media outlets.
Even those who sought opportunities abroad, known as Diaspora Members, have excelled in their pursuits and actively participated in the association’s activities and programs.
The Asaba get-together was a multi-faceted affair, featuring a range of activities such as a Poolside Evening Hangout, physical exercises, a road walk, lectures, fundraising for members’ welfare and a project in the Department of Mass Communication. New executives were elected to lead the association for the next two years, and a Gala night provided a fitting conclusion to the festivities.
Pastor Austen Akhagbeme, the immediate past President of AMCOS ’93, Barrister Andrew Lawani, the new President, and Joseph Obaro Ikupa, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, expressed their gratitude for the success of the Annual General Conference and the 30th anniversary celebration. They emphasized the importance of member welfare and giving back to their alma mater, urging everyone to unite for a brighter future.
During the reunion, Basil Agboarumi delivered the main lecture, titled “Retiring Into A Comfortable Healthy And Peaceful Life: The Prospects and the Challenges.” Charles Aniagwu stressed the significance of seizing opportunities and planning for a better tomorrow.
Other speakers, including the outgone Vice President, Mrs. Dolly Amosu, shared valuable insights on retirement preparation, coping with economic challenges, and managing stress, anxiety, and depression.
Invited guests, such as Mr. Monday Okowa, the Area Manager of Premium Trust Bank in Asaba, delivered goodwill messages during the lecture and fundraising session.

Jolly Iguodala, the immediate past Diaspora Coordinator of AMCOS Class ’93, based in the UK, praised the reunion and called for a progressive and unified mindset among members.
The highlight of the event was the election of new executives, with Andrew Lawani assuming the role of President. The new executive team includes Agatha Matthew-Irabor as Vice President, Lawrence Ojeashi as General Secretary, Ejiro Bridget Enebeli as Treasurer, and Mercy Omokhodion as Financial Secretary, among others. The elected executives were sworn in by Ramat Ilevbare, a Lawyer and Member of the Board of Trustees of the association.
The celebration also featured dance and solo musical performances by six talented members of the class, who were at the center of entertainment at Auchi Polytechnic between 1991 and 1993.
The event took a solemn turn as a minute of silence was observed in remembrance of members of the class who had passed away. Prayers were offered for the repose of their souls and for God to grant them eternal rest.
