Catholic Bishop Charges Local Government Chairmen to Embrace Accountability and Good Governance for Effective Grassroots Service Delivery
AWKA/Nigeria: Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, has called on Local Government Chairmen to embrace accountability and Good Governance for effective grassroots service delivery.
Bishop Ezeokafor delivered the compelling message to the Transition Committee Chairpersons of the 21 Local Government Councils of Anambra during a thanksgiving mass at the Retreat, Pastoral, and Conference Centre, Awka. The retreat, themed ‘Localising the Solution Agenda in Anambra State: Issues and Prospects,’ served as the backdrop for the bishop’s call to action.
He emphasized the vital role of local governments in addressing the development needs of people at the grassroots level. He urged the chairpersons to demonstrate the same dedication that earned them their positions and utilize allocated resources judiciously for impactful projects. The bishop stressed that the success of local governments would have a cascading effect, ultimately benefiting the states and the entire country.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajuyi, also echoed the bishop’s sentiments. He urged residents to hold their local government chairmen accountable for promoting good governance and promptly addressing development issues in their areas.
Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, TC Chairman of Aguata LGA and Chairman of the planning committee, highlighted the significance of the retreat in assessing the LGAs’ performance over the last year and gaining insights for the future. He expressed optimism that the knowledge gained from the retreat would enhance their efforts in serving the people better.
Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor’s call for accountability and good governance at the grassroots level resonates as a crucial step towards achieving effective service delivery in Anambra State. With the support of the state government and proactive residents, the path towards a more liveable and prosperous state seems promising.
