Begin To Relocate To Upper Land, Isoko North Council Boss, Ogorugba Urges Riverine Residents
OZORO/Nigeria: The chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area f Delta state, Hon. Elder Godwin Ogorugba, has appealed to residents living in the riverine communities and flood prone areas in the council to start gathering their farm products as the flood level continues to rise on daily basis.
The council boss, who made the appeal on Monday, urges the resident to as a matter of urgency and importance to start relocating their families, children and some of their farm produce to safer environment in the upper land even as he promised to communicate them if the need arises for them to relocate to designated government IDPs camps.
Ogorugba who joined them in prayers to God Almighty to stop the looming flood, averred that”with God all things are possible”.
In another development, chairman of the Isoko North Council, Elder Godwin Ogorugba, has called for synergy with various community leaders to actualise his agenda of “Operation Keep Isoko North Clean”.
Ogorugba who made the call through the Supervisory councillor for Environment, Joshua Alebe while carrying out special sanitation exercise over the weekend at, Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North, emphasized the need to actualize clean and healthy environment for Isoko North people adding that all community leaders and residents must be up and doing in their responsibilities to work in synergy with the local government council.
The council chairman however frowned at indiscriminate disposal of refuse at illegal and unapproved dump sites, drains and environs, therefore causing sicknesses, diseases and blockage of drains leading to partial flooding, most especially in Ozoro community and it’s environs.
Ogorugba therefore appealed to residents to cultivate a culture of clearing, cleaning and proper gathering of their refuse for disposal through registered private service providers (PSP) or recommended government dump sites in the area.
“A clean environment is what guarantees a healthy living and it must be every one’s business to keep Isoko North clean.”, Ogorugba warned.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Local Government Council, Barr. Vote Umukoro has been sworn-in by the council chairman, Hon. Elder Godwin Ogorugba.
The inauguration which took place at the Exco chamber at the council secretariat in Ozoro followed last week Tuesday’s successful screening and comfirmation of Umukoro by the Delta State House of Assembly.
Ogorugba while congratulating Umukoro on his appointment, charged the new (SLG) to work hard to promote the GODWINS agenda of his administration in line with governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
Umukoro who had served as Secretary to the Local Government council during the first term of Emmanuel Egbabor as chairman of the council between 2014-2017, thanked the council chairman for finding him worthy of the appointment and pledged to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
