BEDC Urged to Restore Power to Isheagu Community Without Delay

ISHEAGU/Nigeria: The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has been called upon to expedite the restoration and commissioning of electricity in Isheagu, a community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

A prominent community leader, Hon. Eugene Chiedu Modebe, made the appeal in a statement from Isheagu, urging BEDC to intensify efforts and ensure the timely completion of the project.

Chiedu Modebe stressed the importance of swift action, warning that delays could erode the progress made so far. He expressed concern that lingering delays might expose the project to the risk of vandalism by miscreants.

“Leaving the project halfway without power would make it easier for miscreants to vandalize and steal whatever the contractor has done already,” Modebe warned.

The Isheagu community, part of the Enuani clan, has endured over two decades without public electricity following the vandalization of the 33KVA line supplying power to the area.

After years of appeals and lobbying by stakeholders, the federal government, through the efforts of Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, initiated the restoration project to address the prolonged power outage.

The scope of the project includes replacing high-tension cables, installing transformers, and undertaking other essential works to restore electricity to the affected communities.

Modebe emphasized that BEDC would be held responsible for any setbacks arising from delays in commissioning the completed project. According to the contractor, the project is ready for commissioning.
