Baptist Conference Honours Oborevwori for Transforming Delta State

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been recognized by the Ethiope Delta Baptist Conference for his outstanding contributions to human capital development, good governance, and the advancement of God’s kingdom in the state.
The award was presented to Governor Oborevwori during the 11th Annual Ethiope Delta Baptist Conference, held at Orerokpe in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
In his address, the President of the Ethiope Delta Baptist Conference, Rev. Dr. Friday Ejobee, described Governor Oborevwori as a leader whose commitment to the church and governance has been exemplary. He noted that the governor’s policies have significantly impacted the people of Delta State, adding that Oborevwori’s tenure has silenced critics who initially underestimated his capacity.
“We, as a people, at our Executive Committee meeting, considered those who have positively impacted the church and society. Governor Oborevwori’s name ranked first, and the committee unanimously decided to honour him during our 11th annual conference,” Ejobee said.
The cleric commended the governor’s sponsorship of 250 pilgrims to the Holy Land, a gesture he said demonstrated Oborevwori’s deep faith and commitment to spiritual growth in the state. He further stated, “I am a pastor and not a politician, but I know that, as of today, we are not aware of any other person contesting for the governorship in 2027. We only know of Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, and when the time comes, we will do what we know best.”
Receiving the award on behalf of Governor Oborevwori, his Senior Policy Adviser, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, expressed gratitude to the Ethiope Delta Baptist Conference, acknowledging the church’s critical role in the governor’s emergence and continued success in office.
“The fervent prayers of the church have contributed immensely to the achievements of the Oborevwori administration in the last 19 months,” Solomon said. “Governor Oborevwori is committed to restoring the lost glory of Warri, improving education, attracting investors, and creating jobs for the people.”
Solomon highlighted the administration’s infrastructural strides, including the establishment of a campus of Southern Delta University at Ozoro in Orerokpe and the engagement of Julius Berger for major road expansion and flyover construction in Warri.
“Governor Oborevwori is consistent in policy implementation, and since his inauguration, he has pursued the vision of making Warri an economic hub again,” he added. “It is our prayer that the church continues to support his administration beyond 2027 to 2031.”
In his sermon, the guest preacher, Rev. Gideon Oyibo, emphasized the importance of evangelism, urging Christians to take up the responsibility of spreading the gospel. He stated that God prioritizes the salvation of souls over material pursuits, calling on believers to be active in evangelistic work.
The event also saw the recognition of other distinguished individuals, including Dr. Caroline Unobunjo, for their contributions to the church and humanity.
