APC CHIEFTAIN NABENA ASSERTS: No Plot Can Unseat Tinubu in 2027, Akpabio Secure as Senate Chairman
ABUJA/Nigeria: Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Yekini Nabena, has issued a resolute declaration, asserting that no mega or merger plot will unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, should he complete his term.
He maintained that no political coup within the National Assembly could remove the incumbent President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, from his position as Chairman.
The statement, released on Tuesday in Abuja, addressed recent talks of merger and the formation of a mega party among opposition parties and certain APC members.
He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to continue his leadership, stating, “The 2027 presidential election will come and go, but the President will remain in the South, and President Bola Tinubu, by God’s grace, will continue his good job.”
Nabena emphasized the need for unity among regions, particularly in the South, to support Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” stating, “The South will not fight each other again for another region to benefit; the era of division in Southern Nigeria is gone for good.”
He also voiced his support for Akpabio, affirming that no threat, blackmail, or political machination would remove him from his position.
Regarding the formation of a mega party or merger, Nabena challenged the plotters, stating, “We are not afraid of any.”
He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would yield positive results, compelling those considering a mega party or merger to accept defeat before the election.
Nabena also criticized former governor Nasir el-Rufai’s idea of a mega party, citing issues in a state left by el-Rufai where salaries reportedly went unpaid. He concluded by expressing faith that “the Almighty God will expose” those with ill intentions and ensure victory for their cause.
The statement from Nabena underscores a firm stance within the APC leadership regarding future political developments, particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
