Amechi Asugwuni Emerges as President-General of Ndokwa Neku Union

KWALE/Nigeria: The Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), the apex socio-cultural body of the Ndokwa people, has elected a new executive, with Amechi Asugwuni emerging as the President-General. Asugwuni, a former executive member of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), succeeds Gen. Mike Ndubisi (rtd), whose tenure ended today, February 13, 2025. The inauguration ceremony, held at Peacock Hotel in Kwale, brought together key stakeholders and community leaders to witness the transition of leadership.

In his inaugural address, Asugwuni outlined his administration’s priorities, emphasizing security, infrastructure development, and a fairer allocation of resources to Ndokwa in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). He noted that when DESOPADEC was established, only one oil company operated in Ndokwa, but that number has since grown to seven. He vowed to push for a reassessment of the region’s entitlements and ensure the completion of the Okpai Power Grid, including its long-overdue step-down project, which he described as essential for the economic growth of Ndokwa communities.

Other members elected to serve in the new NNU executive include Henry Eke as first Vice President-General, Lucky Ikwukaiwe as second Vice President-General, Jimoh Egwali as General Secretary, and Basil Agbanashi as Assistant General Secretary. Others are Ambrose Egwunatum as Legal Adviser, Mabel Adinkwu as Treasurer, Osakwe Yankees as Financial Secretary, Chidikwa Ifeanyi as Organizing Secretary, Asobi Oyemike as Auditor, Odanike Azuka as Public Relations Officer, Ojeke James as Youth Leader, and Cynthia Oputa-Governor as Woman Leader.

A notable aspect of the election was the diverse political affiliations of the new executive members, drawn from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Independent Candidates who does not have any political support. Despite their political differences, they have pledged to work together in the collective interest of Ndokwa’s development. Their election signals a commitment to unity and progress, with a focus on community-driven initiatives rather than partisan politics.

Asugwuni assured the people of Ndokwa that his leadership would be guided by the principles of inclusivity and service. He called for collaboration among all stakeholders, stressing that the NNU must remain a strong and united voice in advocating for the rights and development of the Ndokwa people.
