Amai/Eziokpor Communities in Delta: Fresh Crisis Looms
OBIARUKU/Nigeria: Barely six months ago, several lives were allegedly lost in the boundary and land disputes between Amai and Eziokpor communities in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state; recent reports from the communities claimed that crisis is brewing again following an attack on farmers at Eziokpor farmlands.
Report reaching Ndokwa Reporters, said on Thursday October 26, 2017 some Eziokpor farmers claimed that they were chased out of their farmlands by heavily armed men alleged to be Amai people who entered their farms and started shooting sporadically into the air.
According to the reports, the farmers scampered and left their bicycles, motorcycles, gallons of water, chemical spray pumps and other farming items.
The farmers who escaped alerted the community of the development who then mobilised to recover the leftover items, but discovered all the items abandoned had been taken away by the attackers.
It would be recalled that, in April and May 2017, the boundary/land disputes between Amai and Eziokpor communities escalated into a communal crisis that saw the Delta State government intervening, mediating and ensuring that relative peace was restored to the area.
That relative peace been enjoyed by both communities has now been threatened by the renewed incident of Thursday in the Eziokpor community farmlands.
It was learnt that a surety for one of the suspects, had been arrested by the police.
