Aboh Kingdom Chiefs Urge Support for Newly Crowned King, Obi Oputa III

ABOH/Nigeria: Prominent chiefs in Aboh Kingdom, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on all indigenes of the community to rally behind their newly crowned monarch, His Imperial Majesty, Obi Oputa III.

In a statement released to the press, the chiefs affirmed that Prince Gregory Oputa’s ascension to the throne followed due process, and was met with widespread jubilation among the people of Aboh Kingdom. “There is no dispute regarding the emergence of our new King, as all traditional rites were properly observed before he was crowned,” the statement read.

The declaration, which was signed by notable chiefs including the Ndanike of Aboh Kingdom, High Chief Paul Esumei, the Iyasele of Aboh, High Chief Ifeanyi Odili, the Ozeh of Aboh, High Chief Kenneth Odili, and the Isagba Ajieh of Aboh, High Chief Chris Ogwu, emphasised the need for unity and respect towards the new monarch. “It is a moment of pride and joy that His Imperial Majesty, Obi Oputa III, has ascended the throne in the person of Prince Gregory Oputa. As his subjects, it is our duty to accord him the respect he deserves.”

The chiefs further clarified that the kingship is no longer a matter of contention, as the stool is now occupied following the completion of all traditional rites. “Those aspiring to the throne must recognise that it is now filled, and in accordance with our customs, it is impossible to have two Kings in Aboh at the same time,” the chiefs stated.

Highlighting the role of the King makers, the chiefs added, “The selection of our monarch is the exclusive responsibility of the King makers, and they have performed their duties diligently, based on the ancient traditions of Aboh Kingdom.”

Expressing confidence in the leadership of Obi Oputa III, the chiefs said, “We trust in his ability to lead Aboh to greater heights. His reign promises to bring peace and prosperity, and we pray that Aboh Kingdom will regain its esteemed position in the world under his rule.”

Addressing rumours of discontent, the chiefs urged those living outside the Kingdom to return home and witness the peace and joy now prevailing. “For those few individuals not residing in Aboh but spreading falsehoods about a crisis over the kingship, we encourage you to visit and see the happiness of our people and the peace that now reigns in the Kingdom.”

They also issued a stern warning to those seeking to sow discord. “We caution any individual or organisation, including media and social influencers, against any actions that may harm the reputation of our revered monarch. Legal action will be taken against anyone who misinforms the public or casts aspersions on His Imperial Majesty, Obi Oputa III.”

The chiefs expressed their gratitude to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, for creating a conducive environment for socio-economic and traditional activities in the state. They also looked forward to the formal presentation of the Staff of Office to their new King.

It will be recalled that Prince Gregory Oputa was formally crowned as the 20th Obi of Aboh on September 15, 2024, in a colourful ceremony that was met with celebration throughout the Kingdom. He is now officially recognised as His Imperial Majesty, Obi Oputa III.
