Aboh Community Condemns Kingship Candidate for Intimidation Tactics

ABOH/Nigeria: Chiefs in Aboh, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, have condemned the actions of a kingship candidate, Dr. Greg Oputa, who allegedly used intimidation in his bid to become the next Obi of Aboh.

According to a statement released on September 11, 2024, the usually peaceful kingdom was thrown into chaos when heavily armed police officers reportedly accompanied Dr. Oputa and his associates to the home of the Oduah, the spiritual leader of the kingdom, to force his endorsement of Oputa’s candidacy.

The statement, signed by Chief Ogwu Jimpama (Ukor Okpala for Oduah), Chief Ndupu M. Major (Secretary, Aboh Traditional Council), and Snr. Comrade Chilly Opene (Secretary to the Oduah), revealed that Dr. Oputa and prominent figures like Chief Chuka Obi and High Chief Esumei Olisa forcibly entered the Oduah’s residence.

Eyewitnesses, including the Oduah’s son, Mr. Chinedu Ugboaku Agha, recounted the incident. “Chief Chuka Obi raised the Oduah from his bed at gunpoint and forced him to endorse Dr. Oputa,” Chinedu reported, adding that the presence of armed police officers only escalated the situation, leading to widespread outrage.

Traditional leaders have condemned the act, calling it a violation of Aboh customs and traditions. “We distance ourselves from this shameful and abominable act,” said Chief Ogwu Jimpama in the statement.

The Aboh Traditional Council has promised to restore peace and maintain the integrity of the kingship selection process. “Those responsible for this act will face justice,” added Chief Ndupu M. Major.

Residents of the community have been urged to remain calm as efforts are made to safeguard the kingdom’s dignity and traditions.
