2023 Zenith Bank Principals’ Cup: Dtsg Presents 14-Seater Bus To Umuaja Mixed Secondary School

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has presented a 14 -seater bus to Umuaja Mixed Secondary School, Umuaja, Ukwuani Local Government Area, for winning the 2023 Zenith Bank Principals’ Cup Football Competition.
Presenting the bus to the school in Asaba, the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, said that the competition was geared towards encouraging youths in the state to have interest in sports.
The governor stressed the need for children to be hard-working and strive to develop their talents at all times.
He urged the school to ensure proper maintenance of the bus and use it for sporting events and other school activities but warned against converting it to personal use by the principal or any of the management staff of the school.
While congratulating Umuaja Mixed Secondary School for their success in the tournament, the governor restated his administration’s commitment to effectively drive sport development in the state.
Earlier in an address presented by the Director of Schools in Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education, Lady Winifred Ighawvota on behalf of the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, she explained that it was a thing of joy to finally present the bus to the school.
She expressed optimism that the bus would enhance the school’s ability to transport students to various events and activities.
Ezewu said that the donation of the bus was a testament to the unwavering commitment of Rt. Hon. Oborevwori to supporting educational excellence, fostering conducive learning environment and celebrating the outstanding achievements of students in the state.
The Permanent Secretary in Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro commended the state government and Zenith Bank Plc for sustaining the gesture and advised the school to make good use of the bus.
In an interview with newsmen, the President, Ukwuani Foundation Union, Chief Chuks Onyemulu and the Chief Inspector of Education for Ukwuani, Mr. Samuel Igara, said that they were overwhelmed by the magnitude of the presentation and promised to interface with the school on the importance of proper maintenance of the bus so as to ensure durability.
Chief Onyemulu and Mr. Igara stated that the state government has really promoted sports beyond their expectations.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Nigeria Aquatic Federation, Chief Chinonye Daphey-Aliyu among other dignitaries.
